Hands on ceramics was formed in 2000 when myself, Karen Fawcett and my husband Colin decided to make a business out of what we had learned whilst studying a ceramics degree.

The name 'Hands on ceramics' was derived from the desire to produce truly handmade works of art. In a world of mass production where many pieces are made overseas, we wanted to produce British made pieces. Our greatest inspiration is the native wildlife which we see all around us.

It became a personal challenge to see just how realistic a bird or animal could be made to look in clay. I continuously study the 'jizz' of subject to try to capture not only its looks, but also its personality in clay. I consider it a great compliment when people say 'that blackbird looks as if it's about to fly away!'

We exhibit our work in many galleries across the country, and also attend ceramics shows such as Potfest and Ceramics Southeast.
